After a long and heartfelt deliberation, the Ithaca Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Task Force Board of Directors has decided to begin the process of dissolving the organization.
For 32 years, the Ithaca LGBT Task Force encouraged awareness of issues affecting LGBT people by conducting public meetings, informational programs, artistic events, and social activities to work towards the elimination of prejudice and discrimination and to improve relationships and understanding among and between lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and heterosexual people.
As a not-for-profit corporation and 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, the Ithaca LGBT Task Force provided activities and services to people in Ithaca and the surrounding area. The Ithaca LGBT Task Force was the recipient of a Tompkins County Human Rights Award for spearheading passage of the Tompkins County Fair Practice Law (Local Law C) to ensure our community's civil rights and was instrumental in helping to organize "The Ithaca 50", the largest marriage equality lawsuit in the country.
The Board of Directors of the Ithaca LGBT Task Force has decided that it is time to acknowledge the end of what has been 32 years of productive and progressive efforts to raise awareness and advocate for civil rights at the local level. This is not to say that all civil rights and protections are completely achieved and secured. There is still work to be done to maintain and fight for the equality that all deserve.
Within 60 days from this public notice, the Ithaca Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Task Force, Inc. will begin to officially close all operations of the organization including distributing remaining financial holdings to a similar non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. If there are any questions, concerns, or comments regarding this dissolution, the Ithaca LGBT Task Force may be reached at email@example.com. On December 1, 2017, the email address and website www.ilgbttf.org will be shut down. The Facebook page at www.facebook.com/IthacaLGBTTaskForce will remain active until the end of 2017.
On behalf of all members of the Board of Directors of the present and past, the Ithaca Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Task Force bids a fond farewell to all.
